Fall Styling | Outfit Guide

It’s almost sweater weather friends! That means it’s time to start planning outfits for your upcoming fall family photos.

Before we get started I want to say this extra loud…. COMFORT IS KING. I know, I know.. I say this all the time but seriously, consider each outfit and make sure that you or your family member will still feel comfortable during the shoot and not be restricted in movement or just generally awkward (been there done that, it’s no fun).

Autumn and Winter Palettes

This is when neutrals, warm earth tones and creams get to shine. You might think that that means a dull color palette but NOPE. Big nope. Don’t forget that your location will have lots of color, changing leaves, autumn tones and more to add that extra pop to your images, Fall is when these warm and earthy colors in outfits get to show off what they can do.

Family Outfits

Dressing your whole family for a session can be daunting but if you remember these 5 key points when putting outfits together it’ll be easy (or hopefully at least easier): print, solid, texture, neutral, no logos

If you pull fabrics, materials and textures that are both complimentary as well as diverse you’ll end up with a flowing gorgeous family set. Avoiding obvious logos is important so keep your dudes fav Nike shirt at home for this one.

When it comes to wearing plaid if you absolutely have your heart set on it I recommend only one family member wear plaid as to avoid blending in and an overly busy photo.

(Note: when planning a fun adventurous couples sesh where we grab brews and za’ wearing your fav baseball cap is a definite must but keep these at home for family photos)
