Tips for bringing your dog along to a session

“And they called it puppy loveeeeee!”

I’m on cloud 9 fam. Gimme all the doggo love and cuddles. I will always say yes to bringing your #dogsidekick along

A few tips when bringing your dog along to your session

  1. Lots of walkies before the session

It’s a great idea to let your pup run some energy off before leaving for your session. This lets them focus more during shooting and when being asked to listen or follow commands.

2. Treats, treats, treats

Skip big meals if they fall right before the shoot and instead feed lots of treats during shooting. You want them to have a positive experience but you also want them to be excited for the treats. That means no full tummy! It’s also helpful since they won’t feel sick or have an upset stomach right before a shoot especially with all the excitement and running around. Bring a high reward treat! Something they looooove!

3. Grab a towel

The best part about an adventure is getting messy! So be sure to bring a towel and brush along just in case they decide to show off their free spirit, swim and dig. But hey! That’s the best part about being so cute and fluffy. Nobody can stay mad at you with that sweet face.

4. Inhale fun, exhale worry

Of course there will be moments that might try your patience but dogs are great at reading your body language. Don’t let those annoyances bother you. We’ve got all the time in the world. Wrangling puppies and dogs is like just like chasing kids around. Give them some space and let them play it out for a bit. Those sweet genuine shots will come when you relax and let everything happen.

5. Bring a change of clothes

Just in case your ball of fur decides to share their muddy paws with you and your outfit make sure you have a back-up outfit in the car! This is a “just in case” moment cause who knows when your pup turns you into their latest da Vinci masterpiece.
